Community Strategy work in support of the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company.
The Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company was announced over the radio on 4th February 2004 as I was driving to my first day’s work as a Community Strategy Officer for Gloucester City Council.
The GHURC was originally focused on physical improvements, and looked to the Local Strategic Partnership chaired by Gloucester City Council to provide and support community and economic regeneration proposals.
One of the earliest priorities was a Regeneration Framework for Gloucester, and a steering group was formed on which I was the LSP representative. While the physical programme got under way, the next step in social regeneration was to confirm how the LSP and GHURC would work together in practice to deliver aspects of the Framework.
The result of joint discussions was a Regeneration Protocol formally agreed by both parties in September 2008:
Gloucester Regeneration Protocol 2008
Many changes have happened since then, not least the development of an early LSP initiative connecting local people to work through training:
This is only the shortest introduction to everything that is happening in Gloucester – GHURC was finally brought to a close in April 2013, but the latest news can be found on the City Council website.
